Fun OT Goals
Every child deserves to do their best with these skills
Fine Motor
Fine motor skills involve the use of the small muscles of the hands. Children use their fine motor skills when writing, coloring, cutting with scissors, holding small items, dressing, turning pages in a book, and when eating.
Visual Motor
Visual motor skills or more commonly referred to as eye-hand coordination, involves the use of both eyes and the hands to complete tasks such as to draw, write, copy from the board, play catch, and tie shoelaces.
Sensory Processing
Sensory Processing is the body's way of accurately registering and interpreting sensory stimuli from the environment. It is the way the brain receives, organizes, and responds to sensory input in order to function in a meaningful and consistent way.
Handwriting
Handwriting plays a major role in school aged children. At a young age, children are expected to start writing so that they can form letters to write their names and write numbers. Handwriting skills are necessary in order for children to copy notes from the board, answer questions, and express their thoughts or ideas on paper.
Motor Planning
Motor planning, or also commonly referred to as praxis, consists of the ability to initiate a plan of action (ideation), plan out what to do (sequencing), carry out the task (execution), and then to make changes as needed to complete tasks successfully.
Gross Motor
Gross Motor skills involve the large muscles of the body that is involved in functions such as walking, sitting upright, lifting, kicking, catching and throwing a ball. Children need to have good range of motion, balance, and strength. Good postural control is needed to maintain an upright seated posture at the table when learning.
